The numerous e-mail messages and letters from our readers and the students helped us to perceive their interest. We have also built up a large file of ideas based on the paradigm changes happened in the field of corporate laws since the publication of the first edition.

With more than 70 amendments made in the last year in corporate laws, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs has awakened and introduced a lot of changes and cast more responsibilities on the directors of all the companies and professionals like Company Secretaries, Charted Accountants and Cost Accountants. Enforcing stringent actions against defaulting professionals and also referring these matters to the respective institutes to take disciplinary actions against them, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs has also come out with voluntary guideline on the topics: Corporate Governance, Corporate Social Responsibility, and Sustainability for all companies in India. Even various departments of Government like Department of Public Enterprisers, Department of Telecom and Insurance has come out with various guidelines on these aspects. The new subjects on Financial, Treasury & Forex Management and Advance Tax Laws & Practice are added to the earlier subjects on law in the first edition.

The entire book is divided based on an easily understandable format beginning with Why duty is levied?, What is the amount of duty payable? and How duty shall be payable? The taxable event under Excise and customs discusses on why duty is levied and Rate of duty, Valuation under Excise and customs discusses on the amount of duty payable. The last area procedures and common topics discusses as to how duty shall be payable.
